The Nyamyumba station is located in the Rubavu District of Rwanda, covering the nutrient rich volcanic clay soils in the high-altitude hills of the Congo Nile trail.
The farms vary between 0.1 – 0.3 hectares in size, with each farmer allocated roughly 400 trees to maintain. Farmers selectively handpick the cherries, which are then floated and hand sorted in order to remove any visible defects or low-density beans. This hands-on approach and attention to detail are part of the reason why this coffee is of a consistently high quality.
Farmer training is heavily invested in by sharing information to producers about the best agricultural practices, conservation tactics, and outlining the importance of only picking ripe cherries. This helps to ensure high standards of agricultural processes are maintained.
The farmers are also helped to improve their overall financial situation with annual bonuses once the coffee is sold. Payments are deposited into zero-fee accounts, that offer wider reaching benefits for the farmers, including secure storage for their savings and a way to build their credit history.
The Rwanda Nyamyumba is a deliciously sweet and earthy coffee with notes of green apple in the finish.
