Konga Sede washing station sits at the heart of the Yirgacheffe region and receives cherries from over 400 smallholder farms in the area. It’s owned by the Alemayehu family, led by Gizaw Alemayehu and his wife Frehiwot. They’re involved from the farms to processing stations and export plants in Ethiopia, and have established strong connections with farmers, providing free schooling and supplies to collaborating families’ children.
During the October – December harvest season, the cherries are carefully handpicked when ripe. After pulping, the coffee undergoes a 72 hour fermentation period, followed by thorough washing. It is then processed and dried on drying tables.
The Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Konga Sede creates an amazingly bright and sweet cup, with notes of apricot, lemongrass and honeycomb.
